Athletistic.ru will broadcast a live online text broadcast: Formula 1. Belgian Grand Prix. Race. Direct
The intrigues of this Grand Prix are endless. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are starting late in the grid, Daniel Ricciardo is looking to end his time at McLaren on a high note, and young drivers are potentially in contention for places at bigger teams in 2023.
The title race is not officially over, but Verstappen arrives in Belgium 80 points ahead of Leclerc.
Leclerc’s road to the title is bleak at best and it will be difficult for him to get close to Verstappen on Sunday as Charles and Max start 16th and 15th respectively.
Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz can battle for victory as teammates Verstappen and Leclerc fight their way through the grid. Sainz will start from pole and Perez will be next to him in the front row.
Leclerc and Verstappen are two of seven drivers who received fines for repairing power units and gearboxes ahead of Sunday’s race. Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guangyou, Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris and Mick Schumacher also start at the end.
But Verstappen’s pace can take him very high. The teams that have decided to change engines have done so in Belgium because it is easier to overtake on this circuit than on others. Verstappen has finished at least seventh in every race he has finished this season. He can reach this position thanks to his pure speed throughout the first half of the race.
Red Bull could be tempted to offer Verstappen an alternative pit stop strategy to help him move up the grid and reclaim positions from Sergio Pérez, Carlos Sainz and the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen’s minimum target is to finish in the top six. However, it won’t be a surprise if he gets on the podium.
Also today, good news has arrived for all fans who enjoy classic racing. The Belgian Grand Prix will also take place in 2023. So far, Spa has only been extended for a year, but that’s great news, because Belgium could suffer the same fate as France, and without Spa, the schedule seems somehow inferior.
