Alfa Romeo looking for points at Zandvoort

The Alfa Romeo team has not scored any points in five races in a row. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou are determined to break this bleak streak at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend.

Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “After completing the Spa chapter, we will return to Zandvoort this week for the second round of the built series. Last year the Dutch Grand Prix turned out to be one of the best stages I’ve seen – the organizers have prepared an incredible show and I’m looking forward to something similar this year.

The team knew we were in for a tough weekend in Belgium as we decided to sit out the penalties for replacing engines and gearboxes, but the chances of earning points were real as we managed to show a high pace.

Qualifying will be a session that will largely determine the outcome of the entire weekend, given the very tight battle in the middle group. If we start from a good position, the speed of the car allows us to hold it. We have to push the boundaries every time and get back to where we need to be: finish in the top ten.”

Valtteri Bottas: “The new race week gives us the opportunity to immediately recover from a bad weekend at Spa. I enjoyed playing in Zandvoort last year – then I was on the podium.

Too bad the race in Spa only lasted two laps for me. From Zhou’s example, we saw that the car has a fast pace and I’m sure I can get a good result. We see this as the starting point for a strong performance this weekend, and we will try to get back into the points. There are passionate fans in Zandvoort and we will try to please them with a good show.”

Guanyu Zhou: “Of course we expected more from the weekend in Spa, but we understood that because of the penalty it would be difficult to finish in the points after we started from the last positions. Nevertheless, our pace is promising, so we hope for a good result in Zandvoort.

The Dutch circuit is relatively new to me. I drove it in Formula 3 a few years ago, but it’s important to adapt as quickly as possible behind the wheel of Formula 1 and qualify in a high position to compete for points in the race . We know we can do it, but this requires us to run flawlessly from start to finish all weekend.
