Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko is pleased with the way this season is shaping up – comparing it to the team’s period of dominance with Sebastian Vettel, who won four league titles in a row…
Helmut Marko: “Even before the summer break, we knew we would change the bike in Spa, and we hoped to at least earn points after the penalty. After Max’s lap in qualifying we decided that a podium place was possible and Jos immediately said: Max is going to win.
We have not seen such dominance from Red Bull since Vettel. But now we have strong opponents. With Vettel, we mostly fought with Ferrari, a year with McLaren, and now we’re fighting Ferrari and Mercedes, so we’re very happy with the results.
It’s good that we have a big lead and that we don’t have to win every race. If we see that we can’t win, we just earn points. Eight more races to go. I think we need to win two or three more to feel safe.
In Zandvoort it is important to qualify well – it is difficult to overtake at this track and the conditions can be very difficult – wind and sand on the pavement.”
