Dutch Grand Prix: Reactions for the stage

Pirelli

Mario Isola: “Last year the event in Zandvoort was a spectacular addition to the calendar. The most difficult parts for the tires, turns 3 and 14, are driven at high speed and have a constant impact on the car due to downward pressure and side loading. This, along with other track features, was the reason for choosing the three heaviest compounds for this stage.

The new tires introduced this season should make overtaking easier. Last year most drivers limited themselves to one pit stop to maintain their position on the track, but this time we can put more emphasis on softer compounds, which will lead to more pit stops and a clearer fight.”

Red Bull Racing

Max Verstappen: “After a successful weekend in Spa, I am looking forward to the Dutch Grand Prix. On the track in Zandvoort you need a lot of downforce, so it will be harder for us to dominate. I expect Ferrari to be strong.

Of course I want to show a good result, but it is much more important to earn points every time. I hope we do our job well.

It’s great that the family comes to the track to support me. I’ll try to enjoy the weekend with the fans – it’s going to be a crazy stage.”

Sergio Perez: “It’s great to be back in Zandvoort – it’s a great place. The Dutch fans are fantastic for the team and for Max, which is great.

The track is good and very difficult, but we hope to maintain the momentum we gained in Belgium. The team will analyze everything that was in the Spa to understand how I can close the gap with Max. I want to come back stronger. I have to work and I want to attack.

I think the battle in Zandvoort will be tighter and we have an exciting weekend ahead.”

Toto Wolff: “The Belgian stage turned out to be difficult for our team, but these weekends make you dig deeper. It went through ups and downs – on Friday and Saturday we underperformed a lot, and in the race Lewis dropped out on lap one and George struggled for the podium.

We have worked hard to solve the problems in the Spa. Fortunately, the wait isn’t long – in a few days we can use this experience and find the answer. In the remaining races, everything depends on how quickly and effectively we will learn to get the best results this year and next.

Prior to the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, this stage was accompanied by a festive atmosphere last year. This is an interesting old school circuit with sharp turns and a challenging character. We look forward to returning and taking on the challenge with this year’s car.”

McLaren

Lando Norris: “I really like racing in Zandvoort and even when I competed in the junior classes I was able to get very good results there.

Elevations and turns create a roller coaster feel – overall I’m looking forward to seeing how we get on this track and try to give our best. In addition, the atmosphere on this track is always incredible and I like to think that most fans in orange support McLaren.

Last weekend it became clear that we have a lot of work to do to compete with Alpine. I have full confidence in the team and I know that we will do our best and keep attacking. The next two races are crucial, so you have to stay focused and work hard.”

Daniel Riccardo: “I am happy to prepare for the race in Zandvoort, on this beautiful track, because it is a great pleasure to race there. The race is accompanied by an almost festival atmosphere and that creates a great atmosphere from the start of the weekend.

It’s an old-school track with interesting sections like the Tarzan bend and you can overtake on it. Overall, I’m glad we’re returning to Zandvoort – let’s see what kind of sensations await us on the new generation machines compared to last year.

I’ve spent the past two days in Amsterdam getting used to it, feasting on local delicacies and thinking about what I can do to perform better this weekend.

In Spa, things didn’t go the way we wanted, but we’ve managed to win back before and now we’ll try to do the same. After the Belgian weekend we made some conclusions, and now we will need them. Let’s hope we can come out with more confidence and fight Alpine.”

Andreas Seidli, Team principal: “Zandvoort is an incredibly fast track with many memorable historical moments. Let’s see how the new cars will show up there and what happens to overtaking, because on this track the riders can fight for wheel-to-wheel positions. The merits of the route include both elevation changes and high-speed sections, which are very interesting to overcome.

Over the past few days we have analyzed the results of the past weekend and tried to draw as many lessons as possible. The results in Spa did not meet our expectations, but in Zandvoort we will have the opportunity to use the findings to improve the efficiency of the machine.”

Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “After completing the Spa chapter, we will return to Zandvoort this week for the second round of the built series. Last year the Dutch Grand Prix turned out to be one of the best stages I’ve seen – the organizers have prepared an incredible show and I’m looking forward to something similar this year.

The team knew we were in for a tough weekend in Belgium as we decided to sit out the penalties for replacing engines and gearboxes, but the chances of earning points were real as we managed to show a high pace.

Qualifying will be a session that will largely determine the outcome of the entire weekend, given the very tight battle in the middle group. If we start from a good position, the speed of the car allows us to hold it. We have to push the boundaries every time and get back to where we need to be: finish in the top ten.”

Valtteri Bottas: “The new race week gives us the opportunity to immediately recover from a bad weekend at Spa. I enjoyed playing in Zandvoort last year – then I was on the podium.

Too bad the race in Spa only lasted two laps for me. From Zhou’s example, we saw that the car has a fast pace and I’m sure I can get a good result. We see this as the starting point for a strong performance this weekend, and we will try to get back into the points. There are passionate fans in Zandvoort and we will try to please them with a good show.”

Guanyu Zhou: “Of course we expected more from the weekend in Spa, but we understood that it would be difficult to finish in the points if we had started from the last positions because of the penalty. Nevertheless, our pace is promising, so we hope for a good result in Zandvoort.

The Dutch circuit is relatively new to me. I drove it in Formula 3 a few years ago, but it’s important to adapt as quickly as possible behind the wheel of Formula 1 and qualify in a high position to compete for points in the race . We know we can do it, but this requires us to run flawlessly from start to finish all weekend.

Pierre Gasly: “The points scored are good for the morale of the team, but I had to work hard because a last minute problem forced me to start my 100th Grand Prix from the pit lane. Surprisingly, after that, I was able to bounce back and earn points.

Besides the race in Baku last year, the Zandvoort stage was the most beautiful for me last season. I qualified fourth and finished fourth, ahead of two Ferraris. It was a great Grand Prix on a very difficult track – I was satisfied.

I like the track in Zandvoort, it’s not easy to drive a car on it. It’s an old-fashioned, narrow, unforgiving circuit – not quite like Monaco, but in the same style. There are no asphalt safety zones, if you make a mistake you will fly into the gravel or crash into a wall.

This year we have very different cars, but I hope last year’s experience will help them get a good result, earn a lot of points and get to the final stage of their three-race series in a row in a good way. Monza to come. mood.”

Yuki Tsunoda: “It was great to be back in the race after the break. The weekend in Spa was a bit hectic, I had to start from the pit lane, but overall I’m happy with how I drove for three days and the car was fast.

The Netherlands organizes the second stage in a series of three races in a row. I came to Zandvoort right after the race in Spa to record a video with Max – I enjoyed backing up in an old DAF car.

Last year I stopped the race in Zandvoort, but before that the weekend was successful. I really like this track and the banking in the fourth corner. I wonder how the new 2022 cars with 18-inch tires will handle it. If we avoid problems, we can qualify for points as we now have a better understanding of our car and how to get more out of it.

Aston Martin

Sebastian Vettel: “Zandvoort has a great old school circuit that drivers love so much, a very special first part of the lap.

I’m curious how the car will show itself, but in theory we are waiting for a difficult weekend. However, we performed well on the podium in Hungary before the summer break, although the track there is similar in characteristics to Zandvoort.

With 2022 cars you can fight harder than last year. Let’s see if we can overtake in the race.”

Lance Walk: “I am looking forward to returning to Zandvoort. The track is spectacular and the stage itself is really cool.

The team faces a tough weekend – our car looks better in races than in qualifying, and given the twisty nature of the track, it will be difficult to overtake. But maybe we’ll get the chance to change something through a different strategy than our rivals.”

Williams

Alex Albon: “We had a successful weekend at Spa, but Zandvoort is a completely different circuit, where you need a lot of downforce and it is difficult to overtake. A lot will be decided on Saturday and while we want to repeat the success in Spa, it will be more difficult here to do that.

I haven’t raced this track since 2015, I will try to make the best of Friday and Saturday to study the track and see what we can claim this weekend. ”

Nicholas Latific: “I am very happy to come to Zandvoort for the second leg of a series of three races in a row. It was fun trying this old school track last year, qualifying turned out to be especially fun – this round has it all – both fast and contoured corners, the narrow track forgives no mistakes.

A year ago the fans created a unique atmosphere and I’m sure it will be like that now.”
