Ocon: Zandvoort needs maximum concentration.

In Spa, Esteban Ocon performed well: from 16th position he was able to push through and finish seventh. French Alpine F1 driver now expects to earn points in the Netherlands.

Q: You are probably happy with the results of last race weekend?
Esteban Okon: It was one of the best weekends for Alpine. The car had a good balance, every day the speed was at a high level, so thanks to the team. We had a good qualifying on Saturday, then performed well in the race on Sunday and earned points despite the penalty for replacing the engine.

Both cars finished in the top ten and I am happy that the race at Spa will remain on the championship calendar next year. In general, we are very satisfied with the results of the stage in Belgium, but now we are focusing all our attention on preparing for the upcoming race. We have to try to keep up the momentum in the days of the Dutch Grand Prix.

Q: What memories did last year’s race in Zandvoort leave behind?
Esteban Ocon: It’s great to play on the course with such a rich history. Last year Formula 1 returned to the Netherlands, but in 2016 I raced there in the DTM, so I know this circuit and of course I like it.

There is a huge difference between Zandvoort and Spa. Compared to the Belgian 7km circuit with its organic configuration, the Dutch circuit is much shorter and more twisty. But it is interesting in its own way, fast, with noticeable height differences, and driving there requires maximum concentration.

It is located in a picturesque area, very close to the beach and from there very close to Amsterdam – this is a beautiful city that is always a pleasure to visit. Plus, thanks to local fans, there’s a great atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Q: What parts of the job do you like the most, that you most want to return to?
Esteban Okon: The whole track is very interesting, but maybe especially fun to overcome the banking at the end of the circle. It’s not like any other corner in Formula 1 and that’s great. The track is narrow and overtaking is not that easy there, so a good starting position is very important.

In general, our objectives remain the same: try to work well this weekend and continue to earn points to gain a foothold in 4th position in the Constructors’ Championship.
