Team AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly is preparing intensively for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix and, in the company of his Finnish coach Puryu Salmela, has shared photos on social media showing a few moments of this process.
“The work continues! We compete with the one and only Puryu Salmela, he is a real beast and generally the best coach, although sometimes I hate him. And this is just the beginning, and we have a long way to go to go!” Pierre reacted to this photo.
The relationship between riders and their fitness coaches is an important factor on which the results largely depend.
Salmela spoke of this in an interview with the Finnish press as follows: “Pier and I understood from the beginning that such relationships should be based on mutual trust and respect. This is achieved through an open and honest exchange of views.
We must be sincere in everything, but above all we must work effectively. Pierre is already distinguished by a very good athletic training. For example, he runs five kilometers in about 18 minutes and lifts a 100 kg barbell during the bench press – for a racer these are good indicators.
Puryu Salmela started his career in Formula 1 at the end of 2013 and once, when the team from Faenza was still called Toro Rosso, he worked for a long time with the Russian driver Daniil Kvyat. The Finnish specialist has been coaching Pierre Gasly since 2017.
Admittedly, this year’s start to the season is not going so well for the French rider, he has only six points so far and he occupies 13th place in the championship. But of course Pierre expects to improve and hopes that he will already be able to perform with more success in Miami.
