Valtteri Bottas flew to the US in advance, but not just to adapt to a different time zone. This weekend he helped his Australian friend Tiffany Cromwell, who was once again competing in the BWR cycle race, which took place mainly on dirt roads around the Californian city of San Marcos.
Tiffany finished third in the women’s category, before admitting that this result was given to her with a lot of effort: “It seems these races on gravel roads are not getting any easier. 222km, 8 hours in the saddle, leg problems, many times which made me ready to retire.
I am completely exhausted, but at the same time I am very happy to have finished third. Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who crossed the finish line. And I want to say a huge thank you to my support team, including Valtteri Bottas, for looking after me.”
Of course, the Finnish Alfa Romeo pilot is a big fan of bicycles and he himself enjoys pedaling on the roads of California. It looks like he will also start as there is another race on Sunday, but at a shorter distance of 112 km.
“Ready to race! But cycling in California this weekend,” Valtteri said on social media.
By the way, Bottas manager Didier Coton was one of the first to comment on this photo: “Another example of a great team of work preparing both the BWR cycle race and the Formula 1 race in Miami.”
