Steiner: Job at Haas just got more attractive

Guenther Steiner, head of Haas F1, believes there is no reason for them to choose a teammate for Kevin Magnussen next year. According to him, the American team is still monitoring the development of “the situation with Mick Schumacher”.

Günther Steiner: “It’s not that we’re not negotiating with the drivers, but for now we’ve decided to wait and see. We have nowhere to rush, we follow the development of the situation with Mick and see what happens.

There is no rush – why should we decide now on the 2023 composition? If we do it now, it may turn out later that it was the wrong decision, which we will regret – we are not going to force things just because the press wants an answer as soon as possible.

I think first and foremost we want the team to make progress. How to achieve this? Inviting a really fast rider or just an experienced professional with a versatile background who can solve any problem? There are many different considerations to consider here, but the goal is to take the Haas F1 one step further.

Of course, the vacancy in our team has become much more attractive than in 2020, when we let Roman Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen go. Then I was the first to say to them, “Guys, you guys won’t want to perform here yourself, because we’re going to have a tough season ahead.” But now that we have a better car, we are gradually making progress and now the opportunity to drive for Haas has become more interesting for drivers.

We showed what we are capable of, while last year was a transition year, but the beginners had a great opportunity to understand what Formula 1 is. Of course there is still a lot of work to do, but now we are in a better position than we were a year ago.

De Haas F1 is currently 7th in the Constructors’ Championship and the best result this year is 5th in Bahrain, which was achieved by Kevin Magnussen. She finished last season in the team standings without earning a single point.
