Sebastian Vettel stressed that Aston Martin’s biggest problem this season is the car’s insufficient speed in qualifying mode.
Sebastian Vettel: “Last weekend at the Spa, I really enjoyed it. Of course we managed to do well on the first lap – I think this confirms once again that we have to start from a higher position. It also helped that a number of rivals started the race after us after receiving fines for replacing power plants.
But then we were able to show a decent pace and stayed in the top ten. Therefore, the key to success this weekend is to do everything in our power to get better results in qualifying. It looks like qualifying is our Achilles heel this season. But we are going to do something and hopefully it will help us.
If everything works out, then it will be a little easier for us on Sunday, because then we don’t have to get out of the middle of the pack, because there is always a risk of being stuck there for almost the entire race. In general, the most important thing is to start from higher positions.
I feel like you can fight through the race pace on Sunday for good results, while in qualifying the car just lacks speed and in one fast lap there is not much I can do. If we can solve this problem, we can fully exploit the potential of the AMR22 during the Grand Prix.”
