Hamilton: We need to look better this weekend

A week ago in the Spa at Mercedes could not compete with Red Bull Racing. In Zandvoort, Lewis Hamilton expressed confidence that his team will be in top form next weekend.

Lewis Hamilton “We hope the situation will be a little better this weekend. It didn’t look too happy in the last leg and all the confidence we had won in the previous five races is gone. It felt like taking two steps forward, five steps back. I hope our form at the Spa is an isolated case related to the characteristics of the track.

I think it will be difficult for us this weekend to get ahead of Red Bull – something has to happen for this that opens up opportunities for us, but the opportunities are still there. In the last race I could have finished second if I had done my job, but you live and learn.

Our car does not have enough speed on a fast lap and the team is working on a solution to this problem. At certain tracks the race pace is crucial and we have to keep it that way, not lose any potential and improve in qualifying.”

Agree with Lewis and his partner George Russell: “This season we are really more competitive in the race than in qualifying. To be fair, the team is still trying to figure out why there is such a big difference in competitiveness. In qualifying we are often inferior to Alpine or McLaren.

I am very disappointed that I did not finish third in Belgium. I think this result would have been possible if we solved the speed issues in a fast lap.

The lap is shorter in Zandvoort, so I don’t think the gaps will be that big this weekend. However, I have no doubt that Max Verstappen and Red Bull will be in a privileged position because they are very competitive. However, we have reason to think that we will do better than in Belgium. Spa was the most unsuitable track for our car, but now we are preparing for the weekend in good spirits.”
