With eight races to go into the season, McLaren is 20 points behind Alpine in the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. British team rider Lando Norris admits his team has less and less time to rectify the situation in their favor.
“Hopefully we can regain a few points in this stage, especially considering that to perform well on this track you just need as much downforce as possible,” said Lando Norris at a sponsorship event in Zandvoort. “Efficiency was paramount in the Spa. It wasn’t enough to be fast on the straights – you also needed downforce in the corners, which Red Bull could generate without the big rear wing. That’s why they were much faster than everyone else, especially Max Verstappen.
The circuit in Zandvoort is more like Budapest and Monaco, where you also have to load as much as possible. I hope that this weekend we will take a step forward and be more competitive. I think we still have a lot to do, but we’re running out of time to get ahead of Alpine.”
