Daniel Ricciardo was asked to comment on the history of Oscar Piastri’s contract, as it was announced Friday that the young driver will drive for McLaren in 2023. Daniel said he was not aware of the team’s negotiations with his compatriot.
Daniel Ricciardo: “To be honest, I didn’t know exactly when Oscar signed a contract with McLaren, I only found out today and I didn’t know at all that the team was having any sort of negotiations with him.
But long before all this, I would say, we started discussing a few months ago… no, not my future, but how and by what means I could achieve better results so that my collaboration with the team had better prospects. In general, it was clear that these discussions would continue.
But I also understand that the details of the team’s negotiations with Oscar are of no concern to me, and I have in no way been able to influence the decisions related to them. If the team decides that, then so be it.”
