Alpine riders in the top ten finished the second practice of the Dutch Grand Prix: Fernando Alonso showed seventh, Esteban Ocon – ninth. The team appreciated the novelties prepared for the podium and was satisfied with their effectiveness.
Fernando Alonso (7th): “Good Friday to us. The track is very different from the one we drove in Spa a week ago. Driving a Formula 1 car in Zandvoort is interesting – the bumps make it look like a roller coaster.
Our car drives well. In the morning the asphalt was quite dusty, but during the day we saw how much the track condition had changed. In the evening we evaluate the work done, but at the moment we are satisfied with the progress made.”
Esteban Ocon (9th): “It’s great to be back in Zandvoort. I love flying this track with its unique terrain. In both practice sessions on Friday, our cars showed top ten times – a confident start to the weekend.” In the evening we study the collected data and try to find areas in which we can add.
We understand tire pressure very well, because we started with the Hard lineup, which is not very typical for a Friday. We still have a lot to do with the team to prepare for a very important qualifying.”
Matt Harman, technical director: “The training went without any problems and we completed the intended program with both machines. The team brought some small innovations that matched our calculations and allowed us to add a little. It’s great that we continue to prepare updates for each stage – this will continue in the coming races.
The team is looking forward to the rest of the weekend in Zandvoort. So far there are no surprises – we are satisfied with the work done. This weekend’s challenge is to further extend our lead over our main rivals in the Constructors’ Championship.”
