Mick Schumacher: The car drove well from the first lap

Haas riders Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen set a thirteenth and nineteenth time in the second practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix. The Dane did not participate in Zandvoort last year, so only today he assessed the track behind the wheel of Formula 1 and was delighted.

Mick Schumacher (13th): “Today went without any problems. The car drove well from the first lap and looked better than in Spa. Here we are more competitive, which is nice. I love coming to Zandvoort – it’s a real old-school racetrack where you drive the car, it doesn’t drive you.

It’s interesting to pilot, but there will be problems with overtaking in the race. However, there should be more competition on the track than last year.”

Kevin Magnussen (19th): “It was great. Zandvoort is a cool and difficult circuit. It’s nice that we get to such circuits that inspire. I’m looking forward to doing a few more laps tomorrow. I will evaluate the work done today and find an opportunity to add something.”

Gunther Steiner, Team Principal: “Today’s Friday practice was better for us than last weekend. The first session was productive for both Kevin and Mick. Both did a lot of laps, which was especially important for Kevin as he drove a Formula 1 car for the first time at Zandvoort.

Our times on Soft tires look more competitive, which is in line with expectations. In the second practice session we lost some form but were able to complete the tire program by checking the composition of the Medium and then switching to a simulated qualifying. Based on the work done, we look forward to a productive Saturday.”
