Norris: I see Daniel trying to improve

In 2023, Lando Norris will have a new teammate, Oscar Piastri, last year’s Formula 2 champion, who is considered one of the most talented drivers of his generation. But as the young Australian is a Formula 1 debutant, Norris, with his experience from four seasons at McLaren, will have to take on the role of team leader. However, according to Lando, little will change for him.

Lando Norris: “Honestly, I don’t think there will be any big changes. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing now. I love my position at McLaren, I am confident in my abilities and ready to work with a new partner.

Mutual understanding will be needed and we will resolve this issue together with the team, but we are ready. Actually, I don’t know Oscar that well – we probably only talked a few times in the whole time, but of course he’s a talented man and a good racer. However, before the start of cooperation with him for another six months.

The team is still a great atmosphere, thanks in part to Daniel Ricciardo. Over the course of my life, I’ve learned the difference between a situation where someone tries, does everything possible, and when they don’t care. I see Daniel trying to deal with the problems that hinder him, sparing neither time nor effort to make improvements.

I would say he is now even more motivated than ever because he wants to make the end of the season the best he can and make the team happy. For the racer this is very natural, because you always want to show what you are capable of.

So the team is still in a good mood, and it shows in McLaren’s mechanics – everyone is aiming for better results, because no one wants to finish 10th or 12th. But sometimes you also have to be content with this – which means you have to try to achieve more. And I am sure that we will succeed in the future.”
