Sebastian Vettel: “sand” overtook me in Zandvoort

Lance Stroll advanced to the qualifying final in Zandvoort and Sebastian Vettel crashed in the first session and flew off the track.

Lance Walk (10th): “It’s a shame I couldn’t start in the final of qualifying and compete for position due to hydraulic problems. I think we were fast enough to get into the top eight. Not bad, given our recent difficulties in qualifying.

Today the car was a joy to drive – the team did a great job with the settings and balance, the result was a reward for our work. A high starting position gives a good chance of points in tomorrow’s race.”

Sebastian Vettel (19th): “On the last lap I hit the sand with my left wheels at the entrance of the 13th corner. Usually at this point you’re fully focused on the curb on the right and trying to stay on top, but I shifted a bit of trajectory and lost control of the car. It can be said that in Zandvoort “zand” (“sand” in Dutch) caught up with me.

Up to this point the pace has inspired optimism, the last lap would have been enough to make it to the second part of qualifying, I even thought we could go to the final. Too bad it all ended in a crash. This will greatly complicate tomorrow’s race, where I start from the last row. We will try to come up with some strategic options, but it looks like tomorrow will be a tough day for me.”
