After the Alabama Grand Prix, Graham Rahol was very angry with Roman Grosjean, who according to the American driver deliberately hit his car while overtaking, twice.
In the closing stages of the race, Grosjean, who drives for Andretti Autosport this year, attacked Rahol in the battle for 7th position, but the cars came into contact in the 5th corner of the Barber Motorsports Park circuit.
On the video replay it was clear that Roman couldn’t keep the car on the track, after which there was a second contact, and Rahole complained on the radio: “Yeah, he’s just a punk! He purposely bumped into me!”
After the finish, the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rider hinted that Grosjean had a dubious reputation before: “I won’t name names, but another rider in our series told me, ‘You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.’ Grosjean had such a reputation during all the years of his career in Europe.
And here we soon began to reckon with this reputation of his. From my point of view, if the race course doesn’t want to take action in a similar situation, then they don’t want to. But if we’re going to push him, don’t let them punish me either, because in the past I’ve been fined for much less obvious violations.
Roman Grosjean has a different take on what happened: “We hit each other a few times, but there was an interesting fight on track. This is a great track, but overtaking is very difficult. In my opinion it was just a good race, this is IndyCar, and here is the battle wheel to wheel.
Grosjean finished 7th yesterday while Rahol finished 8th.
