At Zandvoort, Aston Martin continued its scoring streak, earning points for the fourth race in a row. Thanks to Lance Stroll’s tenth place finish, the team narrowed the gap with AlphaTauri to four points in the battle for eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Sebastian Vettel was given a five-second penalty for ignoring the blue flags and was on the fourteenth line in protocol at the end of the race.
Lance Walk (10th): “From a car speed point of view, the weekend was positive, but today we were a bit unlucky with the way events on the track developed and how they affected our strategy. The safety car favored Alpine drivers and Lando Norris. If I hadn’t, I would have been fighting for seventh place.
We had a fast pace all weekend – I was comfortable in the car and we were more competitive. All this inspires for the upcoming races. The team at the base has put a lot of effort into making the car faster. Hopefully this was the start of our strong end to the season.”
Sebastian Vettel (14th): “I didn’t have the best race pace – probably the result could have been better if I had started higher. I went to the pits early in an attempt to “cut” the opponents up front. The strategy could have worked, but the first pit stop turned out to be very slow – I lost time on Zhou, Gasly, Albon, Mick Schumacher and took off next to Daniel Ricciardo.
I liked the fight with Mick, but the race was not successful for both of us. Then I got a ticket for ignoring the blue flags when I returned to the track for Lewis Hamilton, but the ticket didn’t affect my race in any way. Difficult day, in which it turned out to be difficult to make progress – these are the results.
Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Lance steered well and earned a point after a tough fight by implementing a tough Soft-Medium-Hard-Soft strategy. Getting out of the safety car didn’t help Lance, but the point earned is a point.
Sebastian has risen from nineteenth to fourteenth place. He couldn’t have done more, because overtaking on this track is difficult.
We are now heading towards the legendary Monza circuit, but before that I would like to thank the organizers of Zandvoort for a great weekend and the Dutch fans for creating a carnival atmosphere.”
