Alfa Romeo’s sixth race in a row without points

The last time Alfa Romeo earned points was in Canada in mid-June – and today in Zandvoort, the run of bad luck continues…

Frederic Vasseur, team leader: “A tough day at the end of a tough weekend. As the weekend progressed it proved difficult to get the car up to speed, we made some progress but Valtteri retired with an alleged engine failure and Zhou’s race was marred by a pit lane speeding fine.

With such a tight fight in the middle group of teams, you have to act perfectly otherwise you will lose points, which happened today. We are disappointed but hope to return to Monza, the home track of our title sponsor.”

Valtteri Bottas (retirement): “It’s always a shame to end a race early. Today we were more competitive than the day before, although it would still be difficult to earn points. The battle in the middle group turned out to be tight and interesting, then a technical problem arose and the race ended for me.

I think it’s in the power plant. Before the meeting, she was working well, there were no signs of a possible malfunction, but the power suddenly went out. I saw flames in the back of the car, we need to find the cause.

Guanyu Zhou (16th): “A difficult race, especially the last part, when I lost a lot of speed because of the blue flags. The safety car departure didn’t help either – there was very little left before the finish, we stopped a rolled up set of Soft, which we couldn’t do anything about.

The weekend proved difficult for our team, we were clearly missing something compared to the rivals in the middle group – we have to work seriously to try to get back to the level we had at the start of the season in the days to stay until the next stage in Monza”.
