After the Zandvoort race, both Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri teams came under fire from some fans who accused them of collusion.
The reason for this was a series of strange episodes that happened on lap 44, when Yuki Tsunoda stopped on the track, returned to the pits, drove back onto the track and finally parked the car on the side of the road, after which the virtual safety car- mode was introduced. This influenced the course of the race, which eventually ended with the victory of Max Verstappen.
AlphaTauri is strongly against these kinds of conspiracy theories.
“It is incredibly painful to read some inappropriate comments addressed to our team, as well as Hannah Schmitz, chief strategist at Red Bull Racing,” the Faenza team said in a statement. “We will not tolerate such displays of hatred and accusations of foul play.
All of this is completely untrue and disrespectful to Hannah and us. While racing, we have always adhered to the principles of independence, fairness, the highest respect and sporting honour.
Yuki’s car had a technical problem that the team could not immediately identify, which is why it stopped on the track. To make other assumptions is insulting and absolutely wrong.”
