During yesterday’s Formula 2 race in Zandvoort, a strange incident occurred while the safety car was on track, and we talked about that. The stewards examined him after the finish and ultimately decided that the two participants in the incident, Roy Nissany and David Beckman, deserved a fine.
10 seconds were added to their results, plus both received 2 penalty points. At the same time, in the case of Nissan, the number of such points accumulated during the season reached 13, automatically leading to disqualification for a period of one race. The Israeli, who plays for DAMS, will therefore miss the podium in Monza. The team has not yet decided who can replace him.
The incident was as follows: as the peloton followed the safety car, on the start-finish straight, Nissan and Beckman started a “fight” for position, their cars drove side by side and as a result the German crashed into Marino Sato’s Dallara from behind, damaged his front fender anyway, and held onto Roy’s car.
According to the steward’s verdict, both were driving “in a dangerous manner.” The judges also stressed that it was not the racers who were responsible for restoring the correct order of the cars behind the safety car.
Due to penalties, the final protocol of the race was revised: Nissan went from 15th to 17th line, Beckman from 8th to 16th and Jehan Daruwala climbed to 10th position, so he got one bonus point.
