Pirelli Racing Manager Mario Isola has confirmed that the second free practice session of the Japanese and American Grands Prix has been extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
This was done so that the teams could test tires for the 2023 season. If the weather interferes with testing, the duration of the second practice in Mexico City will be extended as a fallback.
Mario Isola: “The second training session will be 90 minutes instead of 60, which gives us more flexibility. These sessions will not differ much from the usual second training in terms of work on the track.
I like this solution – we consider it optimal at the moment. This will of course be the first time, so we’ll have to see how it all plays out.
Isola added that next season training will continue for teams that remain on track after the European Grands Prix for tire testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
