The Formula E calendar includes a stage in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, agreements were made about this last weekend in Monaco. They have yet to be formally approved by the FIA, but these are just formalities, and as early as 2023 Brazil will host the podium for the world championship in electric car racing for the first time.
The contract, signed by the Formula E leadership and the city of Sao Paulo, is for five years with the possibility of extension.
Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and CEO of the Championship: “We are delighted that Formula E will travel to Brazil for the first time after the agreements were approved by the FIA World Motorsport Council in June.
This country has a long and passionate love of motorsport, it is a very large market and São Paulo has a rich racing history. We can’t wait to meet the Brazilian fans and there is no doubt that the Formula E round will be accompanied by a uniquely lively atmosphere.”
Lucas di Grassi, Brazilian driver, 2017 Formula E Champion, currently with Venturi Racing: “The news that there will be a race in São Paulo when Formula E moves to the third generation of cars made me very happy.
This is an important event, not only because one of the leading racing series returns to South America, but also because it will contribute to the electrification of the Brazilian car market.
I can add on my own behalf that my dream will come true: I will be able to speak for my compatriots, because there is little that can match the enthusiasm and incredible energy of the Brazilian fans.”
