Safnauer: Monza race often surprises

Ahead of the Monza round, Alpine Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer summarized the results of the Zandvoort race and talked about preparations for this week’s race…

Question In five races in a row you have earned points with two cars. How do you evaluate the results of the Dutch Grand Prix?
Otmar Safnauer: In Zandvoort we had another successful stage, in which we successfully translated good starting positions into points at the finish. An excellent race, in which a successful strategy and a confident performance of the riders made it possible to achieve the desired result.

The weekend was not entirely clean, qualifying was not the best way for a number of reasons, but on Sunday we passed. We made a few updates that helped a lot – we will continue to do so. In five races in a row we have earned points with two cars and we want to continue this series this weekend.

Q: How is the team preparing for the Monza stage this weekend?
Otmar Safnauer: Monza is one of the best tracks, where we all enjoy performing. High speeds, hard braking – usually the races there are interesting and the last two years there have been surprises on race day.

The set-up and aerodynamics of the car are similar to those of two weeks ago at Spa, where we performed very well. Teamwork and cohesion play an important role in our battle for a place in the Constructors’ Championship.
