On the eve of the first-ever Miami Grand Prix, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo spoke about their expectations for the upcoming round.
Lando Norris: “I’m looking forward to the coming weekend. I always look forward to coming to new tracks, and when a race in the US is added to the calendar it’s great, especially if it’s a race in Miami. The track looks fast with elements of the city ring – an interesting challenge awaits us.
I’m in a good mood after the last race and I hope to keep the momentum going. And while we didn’t expect to finish on the podium at Imola, the result was the result of the whole team’s hard work on track and at the base. Let’s keep attacking with all our strength!”
Daniel Riccardo: “I’m looking forward to the stage in Miami! I consider the United States to be my second home, so I want to get to the track as soon as possible and, thanks to the fans, feel the great atmosphere of the city. Miami knows how to put on a show, so we’re in for an incredible weekend.
We are waiting for challenges on the new job. The city ring has some interesting features and I want to test them as soon as possible. The last race was very difficult for me, given the losses on the first lap, but I will come back stronger and ready to go.
We still have a lot to improve on on the car, but Lando’s result at Imola is very encouraging. I hope we get another good result this weekend. Let’s keep attacking!”
Andreas Seidli, team leader: “Welcome to Miami! The new track always offers extra possibilities and the racing looks interesting. The improvised track gives the impression of standing still, fast enough and with overtaking opportunities, which are more likely due to the new generation of cars.
Working on a new job is always a challenge as we don’t have any information from previous years but we intend to get the necessary information. Although the team still has a long way to go, we have shown good results in previous races.
It’s great to see Formula 1 becoming part of the city’s vast sporting heritage. Coming to places like this is good for the sport – it’s great that we have the opportunity to expand the army of McLaren fans in the United States. The team has always enjoyed the atmosphere of racing in the United States and interacting with great fans. Let’s race!”
