The Italian Grand Prix concludes a series of three stages in a row, separated only by weekly intervals, and according to Valtteri Bottas it is now very important for drivers to rest and recover normally.
After a summer break, things did not go well for the Finnish Alfa Romeo racer: in Belgium he flew off the track, avoided a collision with Nicholas Latifi’s Williams and stopped for technical reasons in Zandvoort. In Monza, Bottas will try to come back to some extent and today he talked about how he stays fit during these periods, the most intense of the season.
Valtteri Bottas: “After three races in a row it is very important to rest. This week has been quite busy for me: on Monday I took a day off, worked all Tuesday on the simulator, and on Wednesday I flew to Italy, and we immediately started other things.
On Monday I went for a quiet bike ride, because I like this activity, and the rest of the time I just tried to recuperate. Training should not cause stress or anxiety. This shouldn’t be against the will – then it’s better to just relax, because every race weekend we give our best both physically and mentally.
But if the break between races is three weeks, like between Monza and Singapore, then it will allow you to train normally, otherwise it won’t be easy to prepare for the next Grand Prix – I’ve learned over the years of a career in motorsport.
My plans for this period are not quite set yet, although I know that I will be quite busy with the team for the first week and what will happen after that I haven’t decided yet. We will train and if there is a chance to return to Finland, we will spend most of our time in the sauna!”
