Autolook Week open in Turin

Yesterday the Autolook Week festival, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Monza circuit, opened in Turin. From September 7 to 11, a variety of racing vehicles from different eras in motorsport history will be showcased in the city’s main square.

It is no coincidence that this city was chosen as the location for such a festival: on September 1, 1946, the first post-war Italian Grand Prix took place there. It was called the Turin Grand Prix and was won by Alfa Romeo 158 Alfa Romeo 158 driver Achille Varzi.

Some historic cars already took part in demonstration races on Wednesday on a makeshift circuit being built in central Turin from Piazza Castello along Via Roma, one of the city’s main streets.

Among the vehicles presented at the festival you can see Ferrari, which Alberto Ascari, Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher once ran in Formula 1, but there are also historic cars from other teams – Ligier, March Osella, there are even such unique examples as the 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C and the 115 year old Fiat 130.

The representative jury, which designated the winners in different categories, consisted of Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Italian National Automobile Club ACI, Mario Isola, Head of the Pirelli Motor Racing Division, journalists and photographers from specialized automotive publications.

In particular, the American company Liberty Media was awarded for the most effective use of social networks; Ferrari was awarded for the best promotion of its brand and Alfa Romeo was awarded for its work in marketing. A special award for achievements in racing photography was awarded to German photo artist Rainer Schlegelmilch.

Alex Zanardi won the Legendary Intaking category for his fantastic final lap maneuver at Laguna Seca in 1996. Ganassi Racing’s Reynard car, which he then drove in IndyCar, can also be seen at Autolook Week.

By the way, Zanardi then won the race, ahead of Brian Herta, father of Colton Herta, who may make his Formula 1 debut next season.
