Before the race weekend at Monza, Mattia Binotto emphasized that the entire Ferrari team understands the responsibility that lies with them, but at the same time he admitted again that the Italian Grand Prix circuit is not the best fit for the F1-75 car.
The head of the Scuderia started a conversation with the Italian press by explaining the reasons for replacing the power plant of Carlos Sainz’s car: “We are taking this opportunity to give him a new engine. The power plant has been completely replaced, Carlos will receive an upgraded ERS system, which Charles Leclerc has been using since Belgium.
This is an optimized version of the hybrid system, as the modernization of power plants has been frozen for several years now. Sainz will use this power station in all subsequent phases and thanks to this we will try to gain a certain advantage.
However, Monza is currently not among the circuits that suit us, as it turned out after the race in Spa. On the straights, the Red Bull cars are faster, but we have analyzed what happened in Belgium and we hope that the conclusions we have drawn will allow us to perform better this weekend.
It is important to be as productive as possible during Friday practice and to compare the settings we are using now with those for the stage in France. Because then the riders started complaining about problems with the balance of the car and that eventually led to Leclerc’s mistake.
This weekend we have a big responsibility because a lot is always expected from Ferrari. And on this track it is enough to make one mistake, and then it will not recover. But other commands also make mistakes. In any case, it is our job to perform as well as possible in Monza and we will do our best to achieve that.
The goal is to make progress, try to increase the level of competitiveness. We started the season well, but then we made mistakes and now they have to be corrected.
It’s too early to say if we can fight for the title next year. The most important thing now is to achieve growth, progress and only then think about winning the championship.”
