Norris: We are not fast enough to reach the final yet

The best of the McLaren drivers in the second practice session of the Italian Grand Prix was Lando Norris, who showed the 4th result. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo closed the session with an 11th fastest time. The team is carefully evaluating the day’s results and not sure if they will make it to the final of the qualifier.

Lando Norris (4th): “Good day – I am happy with the progress made, although we are not yet in the form we should be. I don’t think we are competitive enough at the moment to confidently fight for the final, but the team will continue to work hard.

I think we understand a lot of things better today thanks to the information we’ve received over the past few weeks, but, as I said, we’re not where we should be yet. In the evening there are still some adjustments, hopefully they will take a small step forward, give confidence and tomorrow we will be in good shape.”

Daniel Riccardo (11th): “Monza’s track is so unique that when choosing different settings you don’t know what to expect. In the afternoon we changed something in the cars and tried different options.

Lando was quick in the second session, which is encouraging, so we’ll try to use these settings. I’ve been training regularly, but I’m excited about the pace and looking forward to tomorrow.”

Andreas Seidli, team leader: “Productive day. Both drivers went through the planned program without any problems and we learned a lot about the behavior of cars with empty and full tanks, made progress in working with the settings and decided on the correct angle of attack of the wings.

Using analysis performed on the base in Woking, we adjusted the settings and increased the speed of the car. Tonight, the team will re-examine the information gathered to best prepare for qualifying and the race.
