On Friday, AlphaTauri shared a grueling program of aerodynamic and mechanical testing between the two machines. On the fast lap, Yuki made a mistake and Pierre had to abort the attempt due to red flags, so the results in the protocol are not quite representative…
Pierre Gasly (14th): “We still have some work to do, but I’m sure we’ll take a step in the right direction tomorrow. We know what we’re dealing with – in the first and second training session the car slid into medium and fast corners.
Red flags had almost no effect on the job – we managed to find our weaknesses. In the evening you have to analyze everything to get into the top ten tomorrow.
Yuki Tsunoda (15th): “I will be fined on Sunday, so today I focused on the race pace. I ran a few short bursts on Medium and was fast, but unfortunately I couldn’t confirm that speed on Soft.
In the evening we will analyze the telemetry on a long series of circles – on Friday I was not as comfortable in the car as I would like, which allows me to better prepare for the race.
It’s going to be a tough weekend, but a few drivers will be fined, so if we find the optimal settings there’s a chance we’ll get a good result.”
