Max Verstappen qualified second at Monza, less than two tenths behind pole holder Charles Leclerc. The Red Bull Racing driver explained the gap to the rival through the chosen settings of the RB18 car, which should give an advantage in the race.
Sergio Perez qualified 4th, but like his partner he will lose positions at the start for replacing elements of the power plant.
Max Verstappen (1st): “I was close to Charles, but we decided to tune the car for more downforce. It may not be the best solution for a fast lap, but we will be strong enough for the distance of the race, although I will start a few positions lower because of the penalty.
Overall, I’m happy with my circle and how the weekend is going. An interesting fight awaits us tomorrow. In the beginning it is important to avoid problems and then break through to the top.
Sergio Perez (4th): “I will lose positions at the start, but I will do my best to make up for that. The task of the race is to break through to the top. It takes the right strategy to get the pace right.”
