Lance Stroll: Monza won’t fit in our car

Aston Martin drivers did not make it out of the first part of the Italian Grand Prix qualifying at full throttle, with the 17th and 18th fastest times. But thanks to penalty kicks from rivals, Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll should move to thirteenth and fourteenth place at the start.

Sebastian Vettel (17th): “I am satisfied with my circle, for which I had to work hard. I only had one try, because during the first turn on the track, one of the elements flew off the car – because of this I couldn’t get into the rhythm.

In general, our weekend is difficult – for some reason we are not competitive enough on this track. However, tomorrow is a new day and we will do our best to make progress.

We will gain positions at the start thanks to penalties – I will start in the middle of the pack. We are usually more competitive on Sundays, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”

Lance Walk (18th): “We knew that Monza is not the most suitable track for our car. I think today’s result confirms this. Monza is very different from the songs we’ve already performed on, and I hope today’s result is an exception. Apparently our car loses too much time behind the others on this fast track. I’m sure we’ll be stronger in the remaining races of the season.

Thanks to the penalties from the opponents we will regain positions at the start, so tomorrow everything should be better. We will do our best to fight for the points.”

Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Sebastian’s qualifying was hampered by a loose panel, resulting in a loss of time. As a precaution, we called him into the pits to try and fix the problem right away. In a decisive attempt, Sebastian missed only seven hundredths to reach the second part.

Lance led the session neatly and seamlessly and kept to the plan. However, the track characteristics are not particularly suitable for our car, so the session turned out to be difficult.

I am more optimistic about tomorrow’s race. We expect to regain many positions at the start by taking penalties from opponents.
