At Monza, both McLaren drivers advanced to the qualifying final. After opposing penalties, Lando Norris starts third – the best result of the season, and Daniel Ricciardo – fifth.
Lando Norris (7th): “I’m very happy with today. Very satisfied. I think this is the best we can achieve. We were close to Mercedes, we ended up losing quite a few of them.
Tomorrow some riders will lose positions at the start, allowing us to regain a few places. I hope we can take advantage of this, have a clean race and earn some important points.”
Daniel Riccardo (8th): “I’m glad I made it to the final and fought in the top ten again. The last lap wasn’t easy, but I just tried to squeeze a few tenths out of the car.
I still don’t quite feel the car, attacking the limit, I can’t always imagine how it will behave in the next corner, but in the first and second part of qualifying I was able to get some good laps.
Punishing opponents will allow us to play a few places on the starting field. Over the weekend we found the optimal settings, I hope the car will be fast in the race.”
