At a press conference on Saturday, the head of the Ferrari team said a few words about the youth academy participant Robert Schwartzman…
Mattia Binotto: “Robert has two training sessions with us on Friday. It looks like this will be the first part of free practice in Austin and Abu Dhabi, but I need to clarify. Schwartzman is a fantastic racer. He is very fast, especially when he is driving a Formula 1 car.
Every time he drove a Formula 1 car, he showed good results. There are drivers who are good in Formula 3 or Formula 2 but not fast enough in F1. In Robert’s case, the opposite is true. He certainly did great in Formula 3 and Formula 2, but he is very, very strong behind the wheel of Formula 1. And so it’s a shame he doesn’t have a contract at the moment.
This season he has worked a lot on the simulator, helped our team develop the car. I think as a rider he has improved his skills, he is more mature than he was a year ago. I think he deserves a place in Formula 1. We are sure of that.”
