Binotto: The last part of the season is very important for us

Ferrari chairman John Elkann today confirmed his confidence in team boss Mattia Binotto, but said the team is making too many mistakes. Binotto responded to this criticism at Saturday’s FIA press conference…

Mattia Binotto: “We have to go back a few years to appreciate the growth in our competitiveness at this time. The team has done a fantastic job developing the current car, but there are problems. First of all, I’m talking about the lack of reliability, which has cost us at least two wins this season. To fight for the championship win, you need the highest reliability.

Race management – strategy, pit stops – this should also be added. During the race weekend sometimes mistakes happen, it is impossible to be perfect in everything but during the race you have to make the right decisions at the pit wall.

We have a great team and a fast car, but we understand that there is still a lot to do to fight for the title. It will take time, but we are all working hard – on track and at the base in Maranello – to get to the top as quickly as possible. That’s why I think the last part of this season is very important for us. We must first prove to ourselves that we are able to draw conclusions after mistakes and move on.

A good end to this season is important for next year and for our future. But we are not far from where we should be. By continuing to work at the same pace as we have been working for the past few years, we will achieve our goal very quickly.

John Elkann said the team will win the title and the Constructors’ Championship before 2026. We want to achieve this as early as possible, but we analyze the current season and understand what efforts are needed to win the championship.

I constantly discuss with Elkann the performance of the team. Inside there is no turmoil, we are fully focused on solving the tasks set – and John’s statement confirms this once again.
