Lando Norris scored six points for McLaren at Monza to close the gap with Alpine for fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. Daniel Ricciardo didn’t finish due to oil leak…
Lando Norris (7th): “Good day. I am very happy with the result. The speed of the car allowed me to finish fifth or sixth, but I lost a few positions due to problems at the start. It’s a shame it happened on a day when we could earn a lot of points, but this weekend there were a lot of positives.
We have our strengths, which we will try to use next time. We will continue to work hard and try to build on the success in the next races.”
Daniel Riccardo (retirement): “It’s nice when you start the race from a high position and have a good start. Lando didn’t seem to be off to a good start so I beat him to third, but soon saw Max behind him on another level that weekend. I was fourth and tried to keep this position, but we weren’t fast enough.
After we switched to hard tires we found a good pace, but then the engine just cut out in turn six. I had to stop on the side of the road immediately – the box blocked and I couldn’t get to a safer place. Earning points would be nice, but today it didn’t work out.”
