Saturday morning in Monza, Alex Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis, after which the Williams rider was taken to the hospital in San Gerardo. On the same day, he successfully underwent laparoscopic surgery.
However, after the surgery, unexpected complications started due to the effects of anesthesia, leading to respiratory failure. This is an atypical, but well-known type of complications in medicine. Alex was re-intubated and transferred to the intensive care unit.
Significant progress was seen the following night and Alex was taken off the ventilator on Sunday morning. He has now been transferred back to a regular ward and is expected to be able to go home tomorrow. No other complications were recorded.
Alex is fully committed to the rapid rehabilitation and preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix. He would like to thank the hospital staff for the excellent treatment and care, and also extends his thanks to the circuit medical service at Monza, the FIA medical team, his coach Patrick Harding, the Williams team and Dr. Luke Bennett of the HINTSA Performance Institute.
