The organizers of the traditional Race of Champions have announced the dates and location of the competition in 2023, as well as the first names of the participants.
As in 2022, the Race of Champions will also be held next year at 120 kilometers from the Arctic Circle in the Swedish city of Pite-Havsbad on January 28-29 on a makeshift track over the frozen Baltic Sea.
The list of declared participants is already impressive – Formula 1 champions Sebastian Vettel and Mika Hakkinen, rally drivers Petter and Oliver Solberg, Johan Kristoffersson, two-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick.
Sebastian Vettel: “I can’t think of a better place for my first race since leaving F1 than the Race of Champions. This will be my 11th time participating in this competition, but I look forward to returning every time as it is a special and fun event.
I didn’t have much experience driving racing vehicles on ice and snow, so I had a lot to learn in Sweden this year. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to reach the final in the individual race where I fought with Sebastien Loeb. I can’t wait to come back to help Germany win the Nations Cup.”
Mika Hakkinen: “At the beginning of the year I entered the Race of Champions for the first time and now I am happy to be back. This event has a great atmosphere and a great opportunity to meet great riders, and the organizers know very well what they are doing.
I have participated in the Arctic Rally several times so I have experience with ice flying. I hope he can help me this time.”
