Driver Williams Albon in intensive care with complications from surgery but plans to recover in time for Singapore Grand Prix

Thai rider “Williams” Alexander Albon who had previously been diagnosed with appendicitis, suffered a post-operative complication of the respiratory system, but is preparing to compete in the next round of Formula 1 in Singapore.

The driver was hospitalized on the morning of September 10 and missed the remainder of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. An operation was followed, after which the athlete had unexpected complications from anesthesia, which led to respiratory failure. Albon was moved to the intensive care unit, where he was hooked up to a ventilator. The rider was returned to general duty the following day and is due out on Tuesday.

“Alex is fully focused on his recovery and preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix later this month,” the team said in a statement.

At the Italian Grand Prix, Albon’s place in the Williams cockpit was taken by Dutch driver Nick de Vries, who was able to score two points in his first race.

The Formula 1 round in Singapore will take place from September 30 to October 2.
