Sepang Circuit Executive Director Azhan Shafriman Hanif told reporters that Formula 1 will not return to Malaysia in the coming years, and later the stage will depend on the state of the national economy.
Azhan Shafriman Hanif: “At this stage, we don’t plan to return to Formula 1. We don’t plan that yet. Maybe we’ll come back to this conversation in two or three years, when the economy stabilises.
For the return of Formula 1, we need to understand what benefits it will bring, what effect we will get, think about rebranding, platform revenue, technology transfer, talent development and environmental sustainability.
Singapore has made the right choice by promoting the national stage not as a race, but as entertainment, including concerts and parties. If Formula 1 returns to Malaysia, it must not only be about the race, but also something else. There has to be another reason to hold a Formula 1 race.”
