Bottas proposes to shorten the weekend to two days

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, promises several reforms in the future and plans to experiment more with the weekend format. In particular, the intention is to increase the number of stages to six, of which sprint races will be on the program.

Moreover, it is expected that the number of such races, which will be held on Saturday, will only increase in the future. Asked for comment by Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish Alfa Romeo driver said: “I don’t think it’s worth doing sprint races every weekend – it just takes less practice and more competition on the track.

But now if I had to choose between weekends with sprints and those without sprints, I would prefer the former, because we will be in action on Friday.”

At the same time, Valtteri proposed to reduce the standard weekend program by one day, as the training session, which takes place on Saturday morning, effectively becomes a waste of time, because the teams sitting on it basically only do the work of rubber, and make changes to the automotive institutions even if it is prohibited.

“Actually we haven’t talked about it yet, but as it is,” Bottas admitted. “Usually we still have the opportunity to get some more information about the performance of the car on a long series of circles, but we can’t change the settings anymore, so it’s quite possible to reduce the weekend program to two days: training , qualification , race.”

On the argument that this could lead to an outflow of some of the fans, Valtteri responded: “Of course there are certain reasons why the weekend consists of three days. But I don’t know, then you can train on Friday evening and start racing on Saturday morning.”
