Frédéric Vasser said Alfa Romeo’s 2023 roster will be decided at the end of September, while Guanyu Zhou made it clear there is no rush to renew the contract with the Hinwil team.
At Monza, after a run of six failed races, he again managed to earn at least one bonus point for 10th place. Zhou’s contract with the Swiss team will expire at the end of this season, but the parties are already discussing prospects for further cooperation.

The head of the Alfa Romeo team confirmed that a decision would be made soon.
“It’s not like Zhou has to prove himself somehow before this decision is made,” Vasseur explained. “But it’s a long process, despite the team having a good season and Zhou doing well. But we agreed a long time ago that the decision on the composition would be made at the end of September, so for now we have to work quietly.
When we talk about beginners in general, it’s not just about speed. In Formula 1, the driver has to learn a lot, there is a different pressure level than in F2 and F3 and young drivers have to discover this new world.

The Chinese rider’s partner, Valtteri Bottas, immediately signed a multi-year contract with the team, ensuring that he will remain with Afa Romeo in 2023.
