Red Bull has changed its mind about signing contract with Herta

Austrian sources say Red Bull has given up efforts to sign Colton Herta to have the American replace Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri next year as the Frenchman wants to continue his career at Alpine.

But Red Bull is only willing to let Pierre go if they find a driver who can replace him. It looked like Colton Herta could become such a racer, but he does not have an FIA super license.

It was around the issue of the super license that there were recent disputes: Red Bull tried to ensure that the situation that had arisen was interpreted as force majeure, and then, exceptionally, the FIA was able to meet halfway, but other teams were against it.

However, an attempt was made to invite Colton Herta to a test with the Alpine team next week. But according to the Austrian edition of Motorsport-Magazin, he will not come to Hungary for tests, because Red Bull has lost interest in the project, the implementation of which, it turned out, will take too much effort.

On the one hand, this increases the chance of a scenario in which Gasly remains in AlphaTauri for another season. On the other hand, this matter is not over yet as Nick de Vries was spotted in the Austrian city of Graz, in Helmut Marko’s home country, accompanied by a Red Bull motorsport consultant.

We talked about the Alpine testing at the Hungaroring, which is scheduled for next week, in particular the Australian Jack Doohan, a student of the Alpine Sport Racing Academy, will participate, and de Vries will go to Budapest instead of to herta.

The Dutchman performed admirably at Monza, earning points in his debut Formula 1 race, in which he participated thanks to a special set of circumstances.

Nick de Vries, who won the 2019 F2 title and was Formula E champion last year, is also interested in Alpine if the Renault works team fails to get a hold of Pierre Gasly. In any case, there are still vacancies in several Formula 1 teams and various options are possible, also quite unexpected ones.

As for Colton Herta, if his move to F1 doesn’t go through – it seems everything is headed here – then he will continue to drive IndyCar for the Andretti Autosport team, where he is rumored to have a very attractive financial deal.
