The Mercedes team has set a target for the remaining six races of the season: to win at least one and compete with Ferrari for 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship. This was confirmed by technical director Mike Elliott and emphasized that it will be possible to count on good results in Singapore.
Mike Elliott: “Some races were good, some were worse, but I think we got to the root of the problem by both working in the simulator and doing research in the wind tunnel. All of this is encouraging as it allows us to find out why the results were unstable, what needs to be done to get back to the leaders and what to do in the winter off-season.
We want to compete with Ferrari for second place in the Constructors’ Championship and we will try to win the race this season, ideally achieving some wins. But the most important thing is that we are serious about claiming victory in the championship next year.”
Elliott hopes the W13 car will enable Mercedes drivers to compete for high results as early as the next stage, to be held on October 2 at Singapore’s Marina Bay ring road: “I think we can expect to see in Singapore a picture more similar to what we saw in Budapest and Zandvoort (in Hungary George Russell won pole and in the Netherlands both riders of the team were among the contenders for victory).
There is an uneven road surface, which will create its own problems, but speaking of the corner configuration, I think this track suits our car better. As always, we will do all necessary training on the simulator, then we will try to make the training as efficient as possible, and hopefully we can finish the weekend in Singapore with a good result.”
