Damon Hill, world champion in 1996, is today celebrating his 62nd birthday in an unusual way: at the Goodwood Revival festival of historic racing equipment, he will drive the BRM P57 car his father once drove in Formula 1.
Graham Hill drove such cars in 1962 and 1963. It was in 1962 that he won his first title, scoring four wins and ahead of Jim Clark, who then became vice-champion.
The traditional festival takes place in Goodwood, UK, this weekend, and racers, motorsport fans and history buffs always come together for it. Damon Hill is just one of many participants, but he emphasized that he will celebrate his birthday alongside all representatives of the Hill Racing dynasty.
“The Duke of Richmond (the festival organizer) gave me the best birthday present: at Goodwood Revival I will be driving Graham Hill’s original BRM P57,” Damon said. “We will celebrate with all the Hills: my son Joshua will drive the Lotus 49 that my father drove. And there is also Adrian Newey with his own Lotus 49.
Thank you all for the congratulations and wishes, peace and love to all!”
The historic Goodwood Racing Festival kicked off last Thursday and continues through Sunday.
