David Coulthard is in Belgrade this weekend where he came not to rest but to work – today he will be driving a Formula 1 car at Red Bull’s next race show.
For the capital of Serbia, this is an extraordinary event: on September 3, 1939, the Belgrade Grand Prix took place in this city, then the capital of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Then the legendary Italian Tazio Nuvolari, who took part in the Auto Union D, won, but no motorsport competitions have been held since then.
It is clear that the Red Bull Show Run is not a race, it is an advertising campaign, but it has something to do with Formula 1. In Belgrade, David will have to drive the RB7 car – Sebastian Vettel drove it in 2011 and won his second title.
“Our experienced team arrived in Belgrade in advance, assessed the circuit configuration and decided it was best suited for the show,” said David. – Of course the car has been specially modified, it has a greater ground clearance, although unfortunately we do not accelerate to 300 km/h. However, on some demonstration runs we came close to such speeds – where the track location allowed it.
But everything must comply with safety standards, so this time the emphasis is rather not on speeds, but more on engine noise, on “donuts”, which, of course, we will twist. In general, of course, the car is technically set up very differently than before the race. In addition, the cooling system is equipped with extra fans so that you can drive longer in this position.
But in fact this is a real Formula 1 car, which once won races, prepared only in a special way for demonstration races. We have a team of highly qualified specialists, engineers and mechanics with Grand Prix experience, so Red Bull takes these shows very seriously.”
