This weekend, seven-year-old Robin Raikkonen entered the race for the first time behind the wheel of a kart and immediately demonstrated the talent for speed that made his father famous.
Kimi Raikkonen started teaching his son the art of driving these small machines long ago and gave his son his first go-kart when Robin was only four years old. The boy gradually got involved, driving more and more confidently on the go-kart tracks in Switzerland, Italy and Finland and now the family of the 2007 world champion decided it was time for Robin to participate.
The details of Kimi and his wife Minttu are not reported, but apparently everything happened somewhere in Italy and Robin took part in the race along with dozens of boys and girls his age or slightly older.
The debut was quite successful, Robin climbed to the podium, after which the family proudly announced: “This is the first race of many to come! Mom and Dad are proud of you, As, and that’s an understatement!
“Ace” is Robin’s middle name, which is, of course, in line with Iceman, Kimi’s own nickname. It looks like the family sports trophies collection in his house will soon be replenished with new cups.
