Damon Hill: It’s impossible not to love Ferrari

This weekend Damon Hill is in full swing at the Goodwood Revival, the traditional festival of historic racing vehicles, and yesterday he drove the BRM P57 that won his father his first championship title in 1962.

And on Sunday, Damon got his first chance to drive another car that made Graham Hill famous: the unique Ferrari 250 GTO sports car that won his father’s 1963 Tourist Trophy at Goodwood.

Damon Hill: “This car doesn’t look like BRM at all, but in those years my father was constantly competing in various competitions, including Goodwood. I don’t know this Ferrari, and we even had a little trouble when we started it. But when the engine started, it sounded absolutely fantastic! I hope the fans liked the sound of this machine.

It’s just impossible not to love Ferrari. During my Formula 1 years I always drove with Ferrari drivers, but this brand is one of the symbols of motorsport. And the 250 GTO is one of the most beautiful creations of the Maranello company, and I am very lucky to be able to drive it now at Goodwood. I’ll try to be more careful with her!

2022 is the anniversary year for the Italian brand, so the festival program includes a parade of historic Ferrari race cars built in different years and for different categories of motorsport. Damon Hill, Jackie Stewart, Gerhard Berger, Stefan Johansson and other Formula 1 veterans took to the Goodwood circuit in such a technique that caused an enthusiastic response from the public.
