De Vries: I don’t think I have a choice

Nick de Vries admitted to being in talks with three teams about a contract for next year.

At Monza, Nick replaced the ailing Alex Albon in the Williams at the last minute and his Formula 1 debut was surprisingly successful, finishing 9th at the end of the Italian Grand Prix.

It is clear that Williams showed an immediate interest in him with a view to 2023, but there were rumors that the Dutchman was also offered cooperation between AlphaTauri and Alpine.

“Yes, it is all true”, confirmed de Vries while participating in the Humberto talk show on the Dutch television channel RTL. – However, I don’t think I have the option to choose, as I cannot influence the further development of events. But I’ve been negotiating with Williams for a long time and I’m very happy to have had the opportunity to make my championship debut with this team. So maybe that would be the logical step.”

The vacancy at Alpine should theoretically be filled by Pierre Gasly, but the Renault works team is still not ruling out other options and De Vries is also on the list of main candidates. In any case, he has been invited to Alpine’s tests at the Hungaroring next week.

Nick confirmed both this and the fact that he was negotiating with Helmut Marko: “We have been negotiating with Alpine since July and together with this team I will test in Budapest. Information has already appeared in the press that I was in Austria last week, met with Dr. Marco, and we discussed the prospects for cooperation. All this belongs to the category of facts.

Whatever team I am in, it will fit me perfectly, but for now it remains only to follow how everything will develop in the coming days and weeks.
