Norris for Grosjean in strange ranking

Among the various statistics in Formula 1, there are quite specific ones, most notably a rating of drivers who have been in the championship for a long time but have not won a single Grand Prix.

Topping the list is Andrea de Cesaris, who raced in Formula 1 from 1980 to 1994 with 208 such Grands Prix. Second is Nick Heidfeld, third is Nico Hulkenberg and fourth is Roman Grosjean.

At the same time, Hulkenberg leads another similar standings, where drivers with a long list of Grand Prix in which they started, but were unable to win, count the number of points earned. Obviously, all this is nothing more than a convention, as different scoring systems were used in different years, but nevertheless, such statistics also exist.

Lando Norris finished 7th in the recent Italian Grand Prix and the British driver has now earned 394 points since 2019, ahead of the aforementioned Grosjean in this weird ranking.

The leader of this list is Niko Hulkenberg, who scored 521 points in his career. Whether Norris will be able to overtake him, or whether McLaren will still be able to rebuild a car you can fight for victories with, the future will tell.

Last year Lando was close to victory twice – in Monza and in Sochi. In the first case, the team asked him not to attack Daniel Ricciardo, who was in the lead, and the McLaren drivers took the winning double; and at the Russian Grand Prix, victory literally slipped away when Norris was in the lead but couldn’t keep the car on a rainy track, made a U-turn (not even really) and ended up finishing just seventh.

Before the Singapore Grand Prix, which is held on a city circuit, where the maximum speed of the car is not as important as in the same Monza, and where the driver has the opportunity to excel and show off his skills. Lando already climbed on the podium last year in Monaco and he knows how to fly on such circuits, besides he loves the Singapore ring of Marina Bay.

“I think we’ve settled on certain points over the past few weeks, and this will help us move in the right direction. I love Singapore, it’s a great track and there’s a lot of physical activity,” said Norris. – In 2019 I had a lot of fun there and I performed well in my opinion. But I don’t know how well our car will show itself there.”

Given the balance of power this season, it is unlikely that he will be able to claim victory in Singapore, but it is possible that Lando will try to fight for the podium.
